Insurers don't cover black mold
WESTLAND -- When Nancy Ajlouny's home
in Westland became infested with mold after a blizzard in 1999, she turned
to her insurance company for money to clean up the damage. Instead, she
entered into a two-year legal battle with Allstate Insurance Co. That's
because insurance companies, such as Allstate, Farmers Insurance Co.,
State Farm Insurance Co. and AAA as a matter of course do not cover mold
damage.

Developer faces mold suit
The developer of Miami's mammoth Four
Seasons tower is facing millions of dollars in lawsuits over a mold
outbreak at a similar high-end condominium complex in Washington,
D.C.Millennium Partners is wrapping up an extensive clean-up and
relocation effort at its new Ritz-Carlton project in Washington, where it
says faulty plumbing spawned an outbreak of mold. Residents sued the New

At Ritz Complex, Mold Came to Call On
Condo Owners
The location was perfect, walking distance to Georgetown,
downtown, the Kennedy Center. The amenities were sterling. And for venture
capitalist Carol Anderson and her attorney husband, Stanton, price was not
an issue. In January of 2001 they moved into a spacious $1 million retreat
at the Residences at the Ritz-Carlton in West End. In came an artist to
paint a mural in the foyer. Up went the John Singer Sargent watercolor of
Venice in the living room. Onto the floor went the $45,000 Persian rug.

Mold
claims come to Ohio so have an aggressive plan
Contractors and building owners
nationwide are concerned about mounting mold and fungi claims. Newer,
air-tight building designs have accelerated the growth of molds and fungi
when moisture intrudes. Courts, faced with complaints from inhabitants
and employees who claim they have been sickened by the presence of the
mold, have permitted testimony that the complaints are associated with the
known toxicological impacts of mold on the body.
